What you need to know before you create a video
You can easily get overwhelmed at the thought of what is involved when creating a video. There can be a lot to do, especially if you are not sure on how to make one, or indeed, where to start! So we’d like to help by telling you what you need to know before you create a video.
We’ve been making and animating explainer videos for years, so you are in good hands. So we suggest… starting from the beginning… and at the beginning, is the context.
Three things you need to ask yourself – which should be in any good business plan – are:
What are your customer’s needs?
How do you and your business fulfill those needs?
Why do you, and only you, fulfill those needs?
These questions can be applied to both your business, or the business you are making the video for. You can see all this in a creative short video.
So for instance: if you’re a company making accountancy software…
Your customer’s needs: ” Simple, clear, non-jargon, easy to use software that tracks and reports on both incoming and outgoing invoices, on client and project expenses and at the end of the tax year, can tell you how much you owe, what profit you made and where you can save money. A place to store receipts and easily create invoices within a few clicks. It must save time.”
How do you and your business fulfill those needs?: ” We have created a simple, clear, web based website, that is designed for the small business with room to grow when your business does. Creates reports that can show your business evolving. It comes with an app, which means you can create invoices on the go, and scanning/inputing receipts while out and about. ”
Why you? “It has been designed by us, the none accountants, so there are no ‘accountant speak’ or geeky figures to understand. We know what reports you need, such as profits and losses within a specified month, as we are small businesses owners too, and hate keeping track of our money.”
See! It’s simples. These questions form the skeleton of any company or business video, whether a promotional animated video, or a filmed, live action marketing video with cameras. – And if you are not ready to create your video script, at least you’ll have a good backbone to your business plan.
